Surgical crown lengthening can be either Aesthetic or Functional and is in some cases both. The ability to lengthen a tooth may make the difference between being able to restore a tooth or extract it or between a good aesthetic result and a great aesthetic result. With the rise of aesthetic procedures in dentistry, knowing how to identify & treat a patient’s ‘Gummy smile’ can be of tremendous benefit to the General Practitioner.
Topics included in this course: Understanding the concept of ‘biologic width’, knowing the correct instruments to use, techniques for osseous re-contouring, crown lengthening for increased retention of restorations, when to crown lengthen and when to extract, treating patients with a gummy smile, post-operative care & management of complications. One of the highlights of the course is the hands-on component where participants are given step-by-step instruction of surgical technique on their own pig jaw. All materials, instruments will be provided for participants. Under close supervision by Dr Danesh-Meyer you will learn the tips, tricks and potential problems of crown lengthening surgery as you try the procedure for yourself.
This course will provide you with the fundamentals to return to your practice and provide you with sufficient confidence to identify and begin treating suitable cases. You will be shown alternative treatment options and be given guidelines as to which patients should be referred for specialist treatment.
